Question: Why should you be concerned about identity theft?
Answer: Because if you aren’t, you could end up like me and get caught out.
It is one of the most distressing periods of my life and believe me, it will be for you if you fall victim to identity theft.
It was 2 years before discovering someone was out there maxing out credit cards that were in my name, borrowing from loan companies and purchasing goods on finance. It could have gone on longer only my wife was pushing me to buy a new car and when I made enquiries I was refused credit!
I own my own house, have a good salary, never had any previous credit history problems, it must have been an error?
If only it had have been. Instead, having contacted Experian (who were the credit reporting agency used by the car dealer I had approached) I received my credit report showing credit card problems with cards I had never even applied for, loans I had never taken out and much more.
At first you still think it is a mistake, a few phone calls will sort this mess out. Why should you be concerned about identity theft if you haven’t noticed any problems? It must simply be a case of mistaken identity or perhaps a typing error. Eventually though it does dawn on you as you dig deeper and it is a horrible feeling, believe me.
It took 6 months to sort out my credit and get my identity back. In that 6 months I learnt a hell of a lot about identity theft.
- First- how easy it actually is to steal another persons identity
- second- how hard it is to catch the criminal
- third- how hard it is to repair the damage
- fourth- how little the average person knows about identity theft
It was the wife who suggested using all my new found knowledge to make people aware of identity theft. The first idea was a book but I’m no writer so we decided on a website. It is hoped that with all the notes and papers I collected over the 6 months published for all to find that it just might make a few more people aware of the problem and how to prevent identity theft happening to them.
So how do I protect myself from identity theft having gathered all this information on the crime?
Well talk about the proverbial “close the barn door after the horse has bolted” but I looked into some of the companies offering identity theft prevention systems. Didn’t know they existed? Me niether but they do and they are becoming popular within the circle of people aware of identity theft.
I have checked out quite a few of these companies but the one that rises head and shoulders above the growing list of companies offering identity theft protection is LifeLock.
For a start they are the only company to back up their claim of complete confidence in their protection service with a 1 million dollar guarantee. I found nothing else like it offered anywhere and am now protected by them, as is my wife and my adult 2 sons (who even now still have an “it won’t happen to me” attitude) paid for by me because what I went thru I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy, never mind my family.
You can read the guarantee offered and check out this first class service here…..
LifeLock Identity Theft Protection Service
Believe me, locking your Identity takes time, attention to detail and a deep knowledge of the ways thieves penetrate our personal lives, how banks issue credit as well as the laws, procedures and regulations which govern how your personal information is released, sold, shared and compromised.
Some of the steps needed you can take yourself by studying the info on this site, within books etc. but for me and anyone else who has been a victim, using LifeLock is simply a must!
Whatever you decide to do, don’t do nothing and hope it never happens to you. Why should you be concerned about identity theft ? Because it is real and it is happening now, please don’t ignore it.
